Building a small hydraulic press?

Has anyone built a mini press using bottle hydraulic jack, like those from a car jack? Something small and compact rather using the traditional fly press.
Objective: To force fit parts together rather using a table vise, as may damage the vise's threads for long runs. Also it has an adjustable height for holding the press part. What's the smallest tonnage for this type of jack?
Any comments is appreciated!

If it comes out of alignment it flips itself effortlessly into orbit, you see newtons law at it's most beautiful as heavy steel appears to effortlessly defy the laws of gravity The last time it happened the 2nd mate told me his great idea for getting a ramp pin sorted I said uh-huh, well you be damn careful, and went up the road I came back to find that he'd been carted off to hospital after a glancing blow to the head, he was lucky, most of the energy was expended launching that 3kg steel pin out into the bay...splosh... If the engine room was forced to do a job needing an imrovised press then they usually used a slightly mad third or 4th engineer while everyone else retired to a safe distance. Many thanks for the safety tips! I think I will call off the idea making one. I shall use either a sash cast iron clamp or a heavy duty table vise instead or make a small flywheel screw press. Just like gas welding, though I attended a year in welding, I see the danger doing it at home workshop.
