85 forum posts 5 photos | I am considering moving over to the dark side and giving CAD a go! I have attempted using a number of free packages listed on this forum, however I have not got very far! Does anyone know of any tutorials around on the internet linked to a specific package (preferably free package!). I am after a CAD package, although I thought the recent step by step guide in MEW was of excellent quality it looked more geared up for 3D drawings as opposed to measured CAD.
Ideally I am looking for a package that I can then use to transfer the drawings to a CNC package in the future if I decide to take that step! |

40 forum posts | I don't know about CNC, but Dassault have recently released their 2D CAD package as freeware and the manual seems pretty good for learning. There are also many videos on their community support site. Worth a look maybe? "www.3ds.com/products/draftsight/draftsight-overview/" |

![]() 7061 forum posts 719 photos | I think Alibre do some online tutorials. Alibre is a 3D parametric package, but personally I wouldn't ever go back to 2D CAD systems. I design everything (professional and hobby) in 3D. The 3D packages normally automatically generate 2D drawings. You usually have to place dimensions and notes to suit. The dimensions are sized automatically, all you do is click on the two features you want to dimension. However, everything is associative; change the 3D model and the next time you open the 2D drawing the dimensions update automatically. Alibre used to do a free low-end version, but they seem to have stopped this. They now offer a low-end package for $99. www.alibre.com Regards, Andrew |
