15 forum posts | I am still getting slag build up on the fire grate especially after engine has been sittting in the station for a while waiting for passengers. We use brown coal, unable to source char very expensive here. I rake the fire every couple of runs. Any ideas in how to reduce the build up. Driving a Holmside 7.25 " pulling water from a tender. 7 forum posts | No-one has commented but I would change my coal. I had a similar problem many years ago and my ever inventive wife was going by the watercress line and she went into the yard and scrounged a tesco bag of coal. After smashing it into our size it was perfect. Horrible yellow smoke, sulphur smell and all crowd said Ooooh just like it used to be!!!!! No slag though! Cheers David David |
