2878 forum posts 248 photos | 40 years ago, I started to build Martin Evans's 5 inch 2-6-2 GWR 'Firefly' Tank loco class 4500. Its part built with experimental stainless steel boiler (any offers ?) - BUT it is going to be too large and heavy for me to complete and then manage.
I am looking to build a smaller 5 inch 0-6-0, and wonder which engine to build.
Is there a composite reference showing many models where the plans and castings etc are still available.
I am a member of the Steam Boat Association GB who printed a wonderful book of members boats and engines (now available on CD) which helped one to decide which boat to build - anything similar for locos ?

![]() 71 forum posts 14 photos | What about Boxhill? Its a very pretty engine, 0-6-0 and would be fairly easy to carry about. https://vault1.secured-url.com/reeves2000/shop_item.asp?sub_cat_id=71 If you go to the reeves site there is a page showing most of the engines available on one page. R. |

147 forum posts 1 photos | If a 5" loco is going to be large/heavy and seeing as you originally chose this scale, then how about a 3 1/2" Caribou. Being a Canadian loco it was built for a bigger loading gauge and is therefore much bigger than the equivalent British 0-8-0. I can carry mine even with a bad back.
