Hi all ime thinking of treating my self to a metal band saw as i have problems with my shoulder, I don't need a really expensive one for the type of work i will use it for , something about £250, now with the experienced on here would you go for a machine mart clarkson  type for £218...or a warco about the same price or a Axminster or ????????( or something else) as i will go looking for one in January,Preferably with 2 small wheels so i can move it.

I think you'll find that there is a good deal of information about bandsaws in this earlier thread.

 I developed a hate for hacksawing early in my working life so when I was equipping my workshop I bought a Clarke 4 1/2" bandsaw and never regretted it.
It has dealt with jobs including 4" stainless steel boiler flues and, as it has wheels, it can be moved out of the way easily when not needed. It has a vertical table that I have not yet used in anger but will do so when I have my loco running boards etc to work on.

I have a Warco bandsaw, no problems and excellent support from the Company. I make my own bandsaw blades from coil stock as the quality is far better. Once carefully set up it cuts perfectly straight and square.  The vice could do with improvements on all of them.

I too have a small Warco type bandsaw. By shortening the legs by 5 inches, attaching a length of studding with wheels on to the rear ones. I can now slide it out from under the bench when required. A small modification to the vice was all thats was required to make it accurate along with setting it up to start with.
Tell me KWIL - how do you make your own blades? How the devil do you join them?

Well after reading on here about bandsaws i came to the conclusion that around the £225 pound mark there is not alot of difference and as i live only 40 mins away from Coventry i might just as well by the Clark one when they have there VAT free days on ,Then i will save a little more money on it,, plus if i need spare blades they will be easy to get hold of.
