Hello.

I always struggle with bending material, always have.

I end up making formers for everything.

Does anyone have any experience with box pan folders?

Looking for something 12" long, maybe like the one Warco sells

Thanks

I've got one, made by Edwards, but 48" by 14g. They are useful, but require some forethought as to the sequence of bends.

A press brake would be ideal for bending, but 4ft ones are extremely rare.

Test lab I worked at once had a flypress with a long vee block sat on the base and assorted length bits which could be clamped in a holder on the ram. Worked a treat, and was very good at pushing bearings in/out as well.

Hi, like Andrew Johnston, I've only ever used the Edwards type industrial ones, but as Duncan Webster has said, a long Vee block can be used, and that is exactly what I made which is 500mm long. Different length blades can be used for box folding, Sheet metal block & blade I've only made one blade so far for this, but I can use my Vice-Brake blade that Waco sell, Vice-Brake which I made a block to hold it in my flypress Folding Tools which were adapted for folding small parts.

These tools can also be adapted for use on a hydraulic garage type press.

Regards Nick.

Gabro do two sizes of box pan folder, a two foot and a three foot version, the smaller is ideal for a model engineers workshop.

I have the Gabro 600mm folder. It is great piece of kit Can also do large radius bends if use piece of tube for the top clamp bar.

I think Vince Gingery did a book on making a DIY version of the Gabro. Have a look at Camden's book list.
