I need to extend the cross slide screw of my Boxford AUD. I removed the screw but need to remove the handle. I have undone all the grub screws , but there seems to be a flat head screw on the end of the lead screw holding the handle on which resists removal. The screwdriver slots are very shallow and "bruised" as if someone has had a go in the past. Is it a screw and if so LH or RH threaded.

Bob

Yes it's an ordinary RH screw I think the thread is 1/4"BSW.

It is indeed a nut (item 13) - LH or RH ? before I get angry with it ?

Sorry it's an ordinary RH thread I don't know why I put LH. I've edited the post above to avoid confusion.

The handle isn't threaded itself so once the grubscrew is removed only the burr is stopping it rotating. So you might be able to rotate it at the same time as the 'nut'. If you are going to make the whole new item rather than just graft on a new threaded part you can redesign this end.
Somewhere there is a website detailing the making of a new screw for the Hercus (Boxford Clone).

Bazyle, the handle has a pointed grub screw in it and the shaft a matching detent.

I take it that means you got it off ok. Lucky to have one with the right grubscrew correctly fitted wink
