2 forum posts | Hi All, I was an apprenticed aircraft technician but have winced moved onto flying. Still have the engineering itch though so have decided to buy some rolling when I can and tinker away turning bits of metal into smaller bits of metal. Sounds like a lot of fellow newbies in that I’ll be looking at advice and posts tooling and machining before I take on any projects as such. All the best to you all and thanks for having me. |

3293 forum posts 112 photos | Welcome, Lee. There are three model-engineering societies - including mine - in Dorset (Bournemouth, Wimborne and Weymouth); and if you live in the NE or W of the county, also ones in Yeovil and Taunton. |

3 forum posts | Hi, I'm a professional engineer, having spent most of my years designing structures and machinery. My hobby has been the construction of a 71/4" Mikado 2-8-2 loco and tender, which is now almost completed. Weighing out at 600kg and about 3.4m in length (loco + tender). Draw pull 170lbs or 77Kg.
I enjoy technical challenges. Regards, Jack |

![]() 1078 forum posts | I also live in Dorset but go North to the West Wilts Model Engineering Society; as with the others I strongly advise a Model Engineering society. I plodded along for years trying to learn on my own. Just having a friendly ear to informally chat about how to do things, see their work or get some steaming experience (if thats your thing) is a real boon. I'm also an aircraft engineer, probably at one of the same sites you were! Welcome. |
