5307 forum posts 83 photos | During the depths of lock down I retrieved a stalled project, a 5" vertical boiler, and fitted wood cladding, then it stalled again! Now I want to varnish the cladding. It will get at least warm, so what type of varnish do I use? The water based stuff is easy, but will it stand the heat |

https://brocott.co.uk/electrical-insulating-air-drying-varnish-250ml-clear/ Good for temperatures in excess of 100C and they sell in small quantities… Edited By John Rudd on 17/02/2022 12:58:07 |

1033 forum posts 2 photos | At the start of lockdown I bashed out a couple of small vertical gas fired boilers and lagged them with the usual wood strips. The only varnish I had available at the time was Ronseal polyurethane satin so they both got a couple of coats of that. Both boilers have been steamed for the amusement of the grandchildren on at least a dozen occasions and the varnish is as good as the day it was applied, The varnish is turps / white spirit based, not the water based stuff. |
