5 inch Lion (Titfield Thunderbolt) superheater

I'm continuing to amass information on the 5 inch Lion with a view to making it my next project.

Is the superheater really necessary?

So they say but my 5 inch Crampton 'Le Continent' runs perfectly well without one. B Terry Aspin [Chuck] never used one as far as I know and says they are not worth it in his book ' The Model Locomotive from Scratch'.

Thanks for that John. I'm not intending to try to win races with it and two videos on Youtube show engines running quite fast and with the safety valves blowing off all the time.

I remember reading somewhere that model superheaters are merely steam dryers!
