Hi all,l am building an 0-6-0 pansy, can anyone tell me if its okay to fit a gunmetal steam chest to a cast iron cylinder block or would l have a problem with different expansion rates??....l already have a g/m steam chest and the cast iron cylinder blocks are a good bit cheaper than g/m ones,l could go all c/i but would then be left with a g/m steamchest, thanks, jack.

The combination is used together all the time in more critical applications like cylinder and piston without problems. You could calculate the difference in expansion if you use enough decimal places but it's an area where you wouldn't be making things (the studs joining them) that tight a for it to matter.

CI cylinders are going to be less aggravation than GM ones for machining and choice of piston rings.
However given the position of the cylinders on Pansy do put screwed plugs into the cylinder end caps so that after each run you can remove them to spray in WD40 or similar so the bores & rings don't rust - they shouldn't but actuation of LBSC's lubricator on Pansy wasn't one of his better designs.
