What3Words Link is a website that divides the globe into 3 metre squares and any square can be defined with just three words.

Out here in rural Wales I was expecting a delivery today and the driver called because he was having trouble finding us on google map by postcode. It was actually his suggestion and I looked up the three words that defines the 3 metre square of our gate entrance - made it easy for him

It has been out for some time. You can get the map app on your smartphone. Once enabled it will give your location in three words, and allow you to find a location having been given the three words to search for.

I'm guessing your 3 words aren't Welsh ones.

How does the app work in, say, Russia?

I just tried it, and it works. Whatever next!

Boris would be off the Little Orme, North Wales.

That is the problem! You have to speak the language of the country you are in. So if you took a walking holiday abroad, you would have great difficulty speaking your location in a foreign language unless you were pretty fluent. Its bad enough in English with local accents.

The web site will translate - in the sense that if could give your English words and make it clear they are English then foreign service can look them up and change to their language versions. Note that the 3 words in the other language will not be a translation of yours but the three new words used in that language for that location.

But , yes, it's not perfect. Nor would I have any chance of guessing the pronunciation of Gujarat or Arabic or Ayrillic script and others
