HI

I am a retired engineer, still very active with IMechE, restoring vintage and classic motorbikes.

I have a single garage workshop to hold two bikes the church printer and a reasonable assembly of tools including a lathe with an overhead "mill"

I am building a Middleton inverted vee Twin and have got to the bit where I need to understand the steam flow. I cannot seem to get my head round the input steam flow. Fig 8 of the September 2017 is where I get confused. Is the "mill out steam inlet slot" at both ends of the cylinder ? The result of this does not seem to show up in the pictures. The two steam and one exhaust slots in the base of the cylinder block do not seem to go anywhere!

Please help this old engineer with no steam experience.

Best hopeful regards

Michael

Have you joined, and spoken to any members of the Cambridge Model Engineers?

Don't know the engine, (Not a steam man ) but wonder if the "go nowhere" slots are at the ends of the cylinders over the steam ports, are to provide a passage for steam from the drilling to enter or leave the cylinder.

Welcome to the forum.

Although not familiar with the engine I'd offer to have a look at the drawings in person as I live close to Cambridge. But of course we're not supposed to do that the moment. sad

Welcome to the forum Michael. Can you manage some photos? A picture is worth a thousand words!

A little convoluted on this forum, so the instructions are here.
