New member saying hello.

Not a model engineer as such, but have an interest in metalworking for practical purposes mainly to do with bicycles and motorcycles. I've had a Boxford CUD for many years and have accumulated a reasonable set of turning tooling for it, also a pillar drill.

More recently I have been dabbling with milling on the Boxford to extend my repertoire, with a vertical slide mounted on the toolpost- I'm finding lack of rigidity to be a problem (as you'd expect I guess!) so I'm thinking of a small milling machine, around 626 size. Or perhaps a T slotted cross slide on the boxford might be good enough? Rare as hen's teeth, but making one might be an interesting project! I'm fishing for ideas, and this forum looks like an excellent source....

Welcome along. A separate mill beats buggering about on the lathe any day. I have made a cross slide for my Taiwanese 14" x40" lathe. A simple polystyrene pattern will do for a one off casting. You then need a mill to machine the slide......
