A submarine is one of the things most likely to demand rigorous repair :

Not that rigorous. I wrote some of the maintenance manuals for those boats. surprise

My favourite was a very large non-metallic external hull component, basically a cover in effect. "For scratches over 0.5mm deep, replace unit." It only cost $700,000 in 1993. laugh

A lot of the maintenance is surprisingly mundane. Diesel engines. Generators. Shafts and bearings. Refrigeration compressors, pumps, blowers, valves etc.

But the pressure vessel (hull) itself is yes, rather special. Normally repairs to it require major major surgery. So the cold metal spray could be a great thing.

Could be useful for repair of say lathe headstock spindles too, where heat might distort the spindle if trying to build up the bearing areas with hot spray etc.
