![]() 500 forum posts 31 photos | I worked for Kaye’s from 1984 and we’d stopped making them several years before that. All the drawings and records were burned by some idiot before I could save any of the information. The LMS on the handle presumably refers to a specific loco shed. It’s a standard 1/2 pint model, made in hundreds if not thousands over the years. We used to make the tiny Meccano oil cans and I knew the chap who made them. He was delighted when I took mine in to work to show him as it brought back memories for him; I think he enjoyed making those better than the full sized ones. The MD had a big 1 pint one, gold plated, on his desk! |

1193 forum posts 59 photos | Hi Duncan. I have a couple of Kaye's oil cans. I have tried for a while to determine what the markings on the bottom mean. The handle marking is probably someones own identifier. My largest can is 545mm long and has stamped on the bottom 1 (?) 2 P 21A and in the rectangle No 2988 BR . as best as I can make it out. I think the 2P could be the type and 21 refers to 21" the length. The No 2988 is its number in manufactured items and the BR could possibly be British Rail. The item (?) is the shape of an I beam and could mean any thing. That is the best I can do for now. If you find any other explanation please let me know. regards Edited By Oldiron on 01/03/2020 11:54:23 |
