I am stuck trying to do the cam for facing a round piece of bar in my KX1 mill.

Struggling to figure out how to put the depth of cut on to face the bar prior to the rest of the operations.

Pobably missing the obvious, but not understanding the height tab settings read the help file but just not getting it.

Any help gratefully received I live about twenty minutes from Leicester.

Depends a bit how you have set your stock up.

This part had 1mm extra stock all around and on top. Looking from the side the light blue line is the top of the stock and the dark blue the top of the part so the facing cut will clear 1mm of stock off the whole area of your stock

If you click the top left File tab on fusion there is an option in the dropdown to share, do that and post the link and I'll have a look at the part in the morning unless someone beats me to it.

It is much like I showed above.

You have the top of the facing cut set at the top of the stock but you also have the bottom of the cut at the same top of stock, this puts the light and dark blue planes on the same level of 1mm above the top of the work

If you just change what is in the Bottom Height box from Stock top to Model Top that will then take the cut down to the correct height as can be seen by the dark blue bottom plane moving down

The second pocketing operation needs looking at as it is air cutting all the material already removed by the adaptive. Also set the tool to cut outside the boundry as it is leaving a lip on the outside of the rim. If you want it to leave the internal fillet where hub joins the recess then you will need a corner radius cutter, if you want that sloping bottom to part of the recess then you will have to set some very shallow stepdowns in which case best to stop the pocket short and do a 3D contour to follow on otherwise it will take ages if you set all of it with a shallow stepdown

External chamfer cuts still need to be added and your final drilling opperation

Just a separate comment for anyone following along

There are quite a few people that seem to be put off F360 due to it's cloud based storage but this is a prime example of it's advantages. The File in the link provided by Old School is not just a part file like sending a STL file but the exact item he has been working on so not only do I get the actual modelled part but I get all the various setup, milling operations, tool choices, tool paths etc that he has been using so easy to see where the problem was and for anyone else to tweak the same file to suit their machines and available tooling without having to start with just the basic part.

Jason I have just machined the part that change worked, you are right a lot of air milling going to put up with only three more to make.

For the other side of the hub I am going to make a fixture and turn it in the lathe it seems the easiest way yo do it and the lip will disappear as part of the process.

Thats something I have learned on with the next project insert cylinder heads for the tether car engines should be able to make accurate combustion chambers, the volume is critical.

This has the 1mm facing cut off the top and the adaptive has been altered to remove more material and finally the pocket cut has been started lower down to save air cutting.

I have not altered any speeds or feed rates but time has been reduced by 6mins

played with it a bit more and changed from a 10mm cutter to 6mm which can run faster and be fed faster without getting too large a chip load and time is now down to 17mins from your original 28mins. Also uses a bit more of teh side of the cutter rather than blunting the first 1mm.

Thanks for the work you have done I get the error message below when I try to load it. Not brave enough to do the fix will pop the laptop into the local computer fix it place.

"This aplication failed to start because it could not find or load the Qt platform plugin "Windows" reinstalling the application may fix the problem"
