It's simple and cheap to do (assuming you already have a battery charger) and it will not damage the part any further than the rust has already done so (e.g. pitting). It will also tend to loosen any paint that is already flaking. A good scrub with a very fine wire wool will usually clean things up nicely. Dry the part and prime it quickly before it re-rusts.... ![]() 31 forum posts | As IanT says make sure it is perfectly dry (I place mine on a radiator for half an hour) then use primer I've done hundreds of parts this way and never had a problem with re-appearing rust. |
