Hi all,

I am currently working on a sublime double pendulum regulator made by Buchanan of Chelmsford.

I am documenting my work on youtube, but will in due course write a blog post about it. For now, here is the latest youtube episode.

What is that being brushed on about 7.40...is it 'Brasso'?

I'm surprised that this clock needs "restoration" as it can't be that old......

It's Autosol watered down to almost a liquid with Parafin. Your quite correct, 'restoring' is probably not quite the right term, however, it is a bit more than a service. The client has requested that the clock be brought back to as new condition, and as it is now about 15 years old and has been moved a couple of times it does have a good amount of tarnish and handling marks/fingerprints all over it. Mechanically there are some areas of damage which will be covered in later episodes.

Lots of elbow grease but it would be good to hear what was being done, why and how. From the reply it was Autosol, but were the cloths special ? Was there some sort of laqueur that had to be removed first, What if any would be the change in weight after such a large area was cleaned.

A bit more of a commentary would be appreciated.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the feedback. I’m new to the videos and still a bit self conscious about the sound of my voice on them!

I will make sure episode 3 has more talking though.
