Can anyone tell me what colour is best at the back of the water gauge glass

i have terrible trouble trying to see the water level especially in shaded areas at the moment i don't have anything behind the glass except the black backhead.

White background with red (or black) diagonal lines works well. (The image of the lines is inverted when it passes thru the water) or a glass with a red stripe on the back like those on a termometer. Glass is available with red line already on it.

Even plain white will work better than black.

Thank you Paul for the photo's it certainly makes it clearer to see the water in the glass. The diagonal stripes are so much better, again thank you. phil.

The diagonal is my favorite, but, it works best when your face is directly in front of the glass. I wanted to use the diagonal line method, but, the angle from my head to the glass was such that is was not useful. So, I went with the colored line behind the glass. I could only get "blue line" in the size I needed. The colored line type works well at almost any angle.
