hi

I'm in the process of completing the great wheel skeleton clock by John Wilding, the clock runs for 48 hours plus but then stops, I've looked at the pivots and gear meshing and all looks good. I'm going to make a new escapement in the hope that that may be the issue

Would appreciate any thoughts please

How much looseness is there in the pivots. they shouldn't be too tight. If it runs for 48 hours it shouldn't be too bad .

Check the great wheel teeth and the centre pinion when it stops

When you hold the clock flat on it's back you should hear a distinct 'click' when you turn it over, which will be the arbours dropping back with their endshake...... Also, be aware that the pendulum on that clock is suspended on silk thread....this is vital that it actually is silk as the effeiciency of the silk is much greater than other thread materials.
