Screw cutting clutch

![]() 2 forum posts 2 photos | Having read the article in November issue on the screw cutting clutch I found that a similar unit for a BH600B lathe has been made by Graham Howe, who was kind enough to send me details. My problem is that the gears used are 1.5MOD and my gear cutter is for 16DP(imperial). Could I use the cutter to produce the 25t & 30t gears without changing the centre distance? |

You would have to run the figures through one of the online gear calculators (or do the math the old fashioned way) to get the exact pitch circle diameters and compare them. I should think the 16DP is close enough that you could do the calculations and work out the exact tooth depth to give the exact same PCDs as the Mod 1.5 and therefore the same centre distance. It would not be quite kosher but should work OK for such a low-speed low power application. |
