To calculate material strength

If forces are applied simultaneously at 1/3 distance from each end then my simple math would resolve those as being the same as the sum of those forces applied in the middle. However if one is doing pull-ups on a bar it always feel more secure to space arms wide nearer the fixed points and observation suggest the bar bends less?? |

1323 forum posts 1431 photos | Not True..the load is spread across the bar in load and shear - a load evenly spread across the full length will show zero load at the ends and max in the center - almost a sinus spread. A load 1/3 in at each end will show a 'flattened' sinus with zero load at the ends. The ends are in shear, and have no loads at all - they are 'grounded' See this link, look at the PDF - figures 1 on show it neatly in graphic form ( with the math , if interested..)
