Guy Lautard's converted oil gun for the S7

127 forum posts | Have decided to make his idea and the suggested gun is on the way. Has anyone else done the conversion (very simple) and has any one any comments? The Myford gun is in a plastic bag at the back of my junk drawer and the Wanner that I bought from Switzerland is not much better but is just about usable with a piece of kitchen towel or thin cloth between the nozzle and the nipple. Hence - desperation + cuss words + oil where it's not wanted. I thought that in the nozzle an O ring would be a good idea for seating to the nipples. Yea or nay? Many thanks everyone. Richard. |

750 forum posts | Hi Richard, I think it depends upon the nipple types you have (I hesitate to say what Frankie Howerd would say to that! My old ML7 has the flat type and I can get away with a cheap Faithful 500ml oil can with rigid spout held perpendicular to the hole/ball - although an open weave cotton cloth helps reduce the leakage. I have no experience of the raised nipples I'm afraid. HTH Jon |

127 forum posts | As I worked in the entertainment for my years I knew Frankie Howerd very well. I have reached the stage of taking nipples out and shoving (!) the spout of the can in and pumping oil in. Well some of it anyway. But this conversion of Lautards seems interesting and is a small project for me to make as my days of making anything requiring skill are over. I also use either a small piece of kitchen towel or thin cloth and this enables the Swiss gun to do a reasonable job. Thanks for your reply and all the best. Richard. |

1468 forum posts 3 photos | I did convert an old grease gun to oil after watching Lautard's video but stopped short of the nozzle modifications as i was happy with how the grease nozzle worked although i have to ensure it is on the nipple dead straight or it leaks . Make shure the nipples are new zirk type ( standard type grease nipple) as old ones are usually worn or damaged. Maybe you could try the gun before the nozzle conversion then after and give us some feedback on the results ? If you feel the results justify the extra modifications then i will be doing mine asap.
