49 forum posts 4 photos | The quill feed shaft is seized-on to the quill return spring housing so turns with it. I've tried heat, a puller and a hammer to free the housing from the shaft but all without effect. A drawing on the "Denfordata" site suggests that there is a circlip on some models but on mine there's nothing visible. If I can't get the damn thing apart I'll take a saw to something and then either make a new spring housing or repair the feed shaft, but I'm hoping that someone here will reveal the secret that I have missed ... ? |

49 forum posts 4 photos | Quick note to celebrate getting the damn thing off. After lots of abuse with a 3-legged puller, a hammer and various levers it eventually, and slowly, yielded. There weren't any hidden fasteners but a piece of the housing bore had broken off and welded itself to the quill feed shaft - very strange. I reamed the hole and cleaned-up the shaft and housing in the lathe - everything now moves freely and I don't think I'll need to bush the housing. |

635 forum posts 34 photos | I can sometimes feel jobs like this coming, you know, when everything's been running smoothly for to long!! Sounds like despite the pretty major issue, there's little in the way of major repair work so hats off, you can't beat my 2 favourite tools persuasion and persistence (a big hammer and keep hitting it)
