8 forum posts 1 photos | Hi I'm thinking of buying a super major mill from Warco, the price is right and I think for the money a good buy the only problem I have is the longitude travel of the table its states 550mm and is 550mm? the table is the same as the GH mill but that states 585mm. I need 610mm and was wondering if anyone had done this type of modification? from looking at the mill there are two cast webs that the handle case hit? I was thinking that these could be removed to give me more travel?? anyone see a problem with this?? 74 forum posts 5 photos | I have a Super Major. There is only a boss on the left hand side which is the mounting for the power traverse. It could be spaced out by 60mm yo get the travel you need but I think you would need a longer lead screw. The only issue I have had with this mill is the noise of the motor, so noisy that I finally replaced it with a motor/inverter package from Transwave and the difference is huge. Now a pleasure to use. 1001 forum posts 49 photos | Bit late but you wont get it with a power feed attached in any shape. I have the Chester supplied Zay in 2004 even with an extended lead screw and proper power feed on right you will only achieve 547.58mm. Originally got think it was 585mm. Only option bigger mill £5k+ or Bridgeport. Issues are parts its Chinese could be waiting many many months and stung big time. ie transfer box (the bit in between motor and vertical slides for powered head £244, whole mill £930. Diy should last about 10 years anything more look for British or another quality item. Semi pro ok for 3 years as long as no accuracy needed.

1001 forum posts 49 photos | Just to add that 547m travel both ends, bed and end castings goes way past the footprint around 4" in each side even the handles near level. Most are MT3 as is mine no problems but look around might pick up one with R8. |
