Finish a bar end

Hi

Can anyone suggest a way to finish the end of a 5mm stainless steel bar , with out the use of a lathe .

No specifics given, so we guess. Goody.

Sandpaper and elbow grease. Disk / belt sander. Oil stone. Some means to keep it square may help. Or do you (also) want chamfering?

If you really want to finish it, leave it on a railway track or hit it with a sledge hammer?

File, then bit of emery cloth wrapped around the file.

Depends how good a finish. I use scotchbrite wheels on my bench grinder to satin finish then cotton mops to get a mirror polish.

Hold it in a drill if not too long. Then file and emery cloth.
