WM180 Lathe Oil Ports

252 forum posts 68 photos | I have a variant on the Weiss WM180 lathe, and amongst other things the manual stresses the importance of regularly topping up the oil ports (every day). The thing is, the oil port next to the gear box that is shown in the manual is impossible to get to without removing the control panel front and bottom swarf guard (very fiddly). Has anyone got round this problem ?

2011 forum posts | It looks a bit like my lathe, I have an oil can with a brass feed pipe. Just bent it to suit, works ok but a bit fiddley. I don't use the feedscrew much so does not need doing often. |

15 forum posts | Ah! I have a Warco WM240 which came with the same problem! I simply took 'potential' aim for the the oiling point, using my oilcan spout, and drilled a hole in the casing. The size of hole was based upon some blind grommets that I already had (available from outlets such as Maplin) and, obviously, big enough to allow the passage of the oilcan spout. I merely have to pick the grommet out, with my thumb nail, and replace it after maintenance, leaving a neat and tidy finish when done. I do agree with your feelings, however, that this is an example of a lack of good design! Trev T |
