The photo are the connections for a single phase motor from Machine Mart my question is as anyone connected a reversing switch to a motor with this terminal arrangement ? I understand the old A1-2 Z1-2 connections but have to admit this one is 'hurting my head' would welcome some advice and if possible connection diagram please.

Harry,

I might be wrong but the way I would do it would be to find, if it exists, a three way switch with the centre position off and the other ways wired individually to give the CCW and CW. The switch would be wired to replace the links as in your drawing.

Hi Harry,
I think the confusion is caused by the switch. I initially assumed that it was the centrifugal switch bet then realised it would remove the power totally from the motor when it opened. I suspect that this is a thermal cut out switch. If I am correct then you will need 5 wires between the motor and the reversing switch rather than the normal 4. This is my understanding of the internal wiring of the motor. The run main winding is connected between U1 and U2 The auxiliary winding is connected between W1 and W2.V2 goes to V1 via the centrifugal switch.

Les.

Are you sure its single phase? The connections appear as to how to run a three phase motor on single phase.

Hi Hamish yes it is single phase and thanks to all who responded I have it sorted now . As far as the terminal marking it looks like to save money they are using the same terminal plate for both three phase and single phase motors.

Glad you got that sorted. Now I thought I knew a bit about electrics and your comment about using one plate for 2 or 3 phase motors intrigued me. So I looked up 'Chinese 3 phase colours' and got this site :-

Which confused me a lot! Maybe it is wrong, but the entries for Ireland and Portugal made me wonder....

Perhaps those who know can advise - I am thinking of handing in my Avo.
