Tony and Andrew, Thanks for mentioning the Denford 280 Viceroy ... I was not aware of it, and it may be my best option. It appears to be of modular construction [i.e. headstock is easily removed from bed] ... is that correct? Do you have any photographs or parts diagrams that you could share? and are there any particular weaknesses that I shoud be wary of, if buying? MichaelG. The 280 is quite big (I've got one) with a footprint 54" x25". The only thing to be wary of is that the reduction gears in the headstock are a form of plastic, very durable and long lasting if treated with proper respect, but if some clumsy ---person-- has tried changing from high to low or vice versa on the move, they can be damaged. If you are buying one, watch out for this. Do I gather you would think of stripping a 280 of its headstock? You would probably be better looking for one with the variable speed change lever on top of the headstock, rather than the one with the electric speed change mechanism - the motor for this is 440 v 3 phase and apparently doesn't like being fed 240v via an inverter.

![]() 23121 forum posts 1360 photos | Richard, Thanks for posting this [sorry, I only spotted it is morning] Following the advice given by others, I have in fact sold the MultiSize chuck instead of looking for a small lathe to accept it. You will see, on another thread, that I have bought a Myford ML7-R ... This has substantially bigger capacity than my Pultra, and will fit the space available. Expediency triumphed in the end, although I'm not yet convinved it was the right decision. MichaelG. Edited By Michael Gilligan on 22/09/2014 09:46:34 |
