Hi Peter,

My old-style Seig X2 mill has a 350W class E motor, that's rated up to 120 degrees, noting that that is for 'hot spots' inside the motor, not the external casing.

In any case, your 50 degrees seems conservative to me, even for the casing temperature.

Neil.

A temperature of 50°C seems conservative to me too. Assuming that the manual gives no specific information on duty cycles I'd be inclined to run it normally for as long as needed and ignore the motor temperature. The mill is under warranty; if it goes phut I'd say to CMT that it wasn't fit for purpose. They will not give you duty cycle or maximum motor temperature information so, as they say, just use it normally and if it fails it's their problem.

Regards,

Andrew

Well just to close off this thread:

I did use the Mill (carefully !) and it did pack up again, same as before. Chester have agreed to give me a refund so it's going back tomorrow for the third and last time.

Back to the drawing board.

Thank you all for your contributions, much appreciated.
