If Jim were to start with a blank long enough to include the part plus a generous amount to chuck on he could eliminate the need for collets. . I may be wrong [it has been known], but I think the plugs are existing stock items that need a 'second-operation'. MichaelG. |

750 forum posts 37 photos | Bump Centre the part in the 3 jaw, I believe the advent of this technique came shortly after that of the chuck Google Bump Centering Tool and watch the videos, you can use these on the face or flank of an existing concentric part in a 3 jaw to get it running true, you don't even need the bearing, it's to prevent marring of the work, a flat surface will work just as well. - Nick |

1025 forum posts 204 photos | I made a few counter weight blanks for my model plane single blade props. This is the ER40 collet set up I made and can use a variety of stops. In this case I made a stop that is 0.02mm smaller than the shape of the blank. It holds onto the 25mm od that only has 0.2mm length to hold the part for the 2nd op. The 5.98 mm spigot helps to stop the part from walking out. Neil

2147 forum posts 222 photos | Neil - also looked back to your earlier postings for context (must have missed them first time around). ER backstops & custom collets - both interesting and useful ideas - and although my needs are probably much simpler/less demanding than yours, they are still very useful concepts to have tucked away for when I might need them. Thank you for taking the time to share them with us. Regards,
