7227 forum posts 21 photos | To spread the load, you could always make a frame out of angle iron, say 60 x 60 x 6 and put the lathe stand on that. The floor will be less likely to compress into holes, locally, since the load is spread, the pressure is considerably less, and the frame will add rigidity. Then you will have place from which you can start to "level" the lathe. In this context, for most of us, "level" will mean adjusting the feet of the lathe (Not the stand ) to take twist out of the bed, so that it cuts as near to parallel as we can get. The level from Headstock to Tailstock will matter when flood coolant is used, since the coolant needs to be directed to the drain back to tank. Otherwise, for dry cutting, a slight deviation from absolutely level will matter very little. Howard |
