failure of air test

Doesn't want to be a sharp feeling in a bucket type of fit but it must be free to move. It's not uncommon on full size engines with plenty of wear when they are idling and the differential pressure across the valve is low to hear the valve slapping as it moves on and off the port face, not desirable and some have light finger springs fitted to prevent it, holding the valve on the face. Too heavy a spring can lead to wear though and if the engine primes it's beneficial for the valve to lift rather than smash a cover if it primes suddenly and the drains are closed! Paul. |
