7517 forum posts 20 photos | I would have thought that the lens was likely originally bedded onto a deformable and hardening ‘putty’, positioned in place by the screwed ferrule and then cleaned up. |

327 forum posts 1 photos | There was no sign of any 'putty' or any other adhesive or material in either lens of the glasses I renovated. Judging by the condition of the glasses they had never been renovated previously. |

10668 forum posts 2415 photos | No putty on mine either. Thinking about it I don't recall any of the optical do-dahs I've taken apart had anything other than a plain ring fixing of some sort. I wonder if it's because a lens system has to be carefully parallel and accurately positioned? Presumably quite a small tilt would spoil the focus or cause interference rings. I distinctly remember not paying attention to optics at school... Dave |
