If you need a 30mm throughway in the mandrel, (have I misread previous posts?)will a Myford, even a late 4MT one be capable? Howard
Nope! The 4MT Myford spindles (S7 big bore, and 254) are only bored 26mm . A Boxford X10 series lathe has a 35mm spindle bore. But people are asking (don't know if they are getting) silly money for them recently. I have one and it's for it's size a nice lathe. But they are not IMHO worth what I am seeing them now advertised for.! Nick |

21 forum posts | Thanks Nick, so please can you advise what you consider to be a reasonable price to pay for a good conditioned and fully working Boxford lathe. If you think Boxford's are fetching silly prices, look at some of the amounts people want for Myford's. |

1297 forum posts 50 photos | Nick Andy's workshop is only 10x8 external, and an X10 Boxford, even in short bed version, has a fair sized footprint, probably too much for a workshop that size.
Andy Unfortunately, your question is as difficult to answer relating to Boxford lathes as it is to Myford (as you have already found, regarding the latter). Condition varies from lathe to lathe, and one man's 'good condition' is another's 'poor condition'. Likewise, one man's 'fair price' is another man's 'overpriced'.
What I will say, however, is that good value for money (relative to their peers) lathes do come along from time to time, you just have to be patient, and keep your eyes peeled. I have bought a Boxford 330 and a Myford 254 in the last three months, the first off eBay and the second from Gumtree, both I thought were a bit of a bargain, in relation to similar lathes.

21 forum posts | After much deliberation and having nearly got my workshop up I've decided to go for a Myford Super 7 with power cross feed. The reason is it'll easily fit in my workshop and leave space for other item and if I do decide I ought to upgrade it'll be easy to sell on. I've placed an ad in a wanted section.
