10 forum posts 2 photos | As the author of the 'fake casting' article, my reason for making these items was simply that parts were not available for some equipment I was restoring/ refurbishing and so I made my own, trying to make make parts that looked enough like the originals that they would blend with the rest of machine and not look out of place. As Jason said if some of them got a coat of paint, it would be hard to tell. The photos on the first page are just a couple of pulleys but chosen to show typical 'cast' type features. There are some more complex items on the other pages. My hope was that readers would see that a cast part does not always have to be cast and possibly have a go at machining parts rather than paying a lot of money for casting services for a one off. (A couple of people who saw what I was doing suggested that I submit an article so...) Michael |
