Hi chaps, I am a complete thicko when it comes to wiring. I am trying to understand how to wire 36volt battery’s to the control. It’s as clear as mud to me what wire needs to go where. Is there anyone out there who understands the black art of electronics who can help me out. Thanks.

Hi Robert, thanks. Just ordered three batteries, new control unit from 4QD and a 500w motor. So will see if it all works, when it turns up. Should be interesting. Michael

Thanks Dave.i have removed both motors but there is nothing on them. I think it’s time for both of them to hit the bin. So far I am looking at a 500w motor to run the loco. My problem now is what battery’s to use. If I go for leisure battery’s I will be adding a ton of weight. If I go for more modern battery’s it’s a mine field. But if I am to keep it,I know I need to keep it simple. So chaps the question is what battery to run a 500w motor for say 3/4 of an hour. With one maybe two adults. Thanks.

Hi Ron, I have know interest in pulling people around and the club I am a member of doesn’t do public running. Fitting a 1000w motor in place is not an issue. However the battery’s are. At the moment I am thinking 500w motor but still stuck with what battery or battery’s to use.

Hi. Thanks for all the physics. I have a question. Would fitting a motor from an electric bike and a 48v 15ah battery with new controller work. These motors come in 350w 500w and 1000w. But getting information on the torque they produce is hard to get. Surely there must be an answer to this.

Thanks Robert, I am in Somerset. Commutator skims, new brushes are way out of my knowledge. I have always been a hit it with a hammer type of guy and if that does not work, use a bigger hammer. Much the same goes for resistance checks. What I can’t get my head around is why into days world there is not a replacement 12v motor I can fit in. I would think that a lot of power would be lost with the locos old control system. Taking out and fitting in new motors I can do. Understanding what looks like 50 year old units I have not a hope.

Ron, I think you are right the Sinclair motor is not man enough. I think that this is going to be too much for me to sort out as I am a complete donut when it comes to electronics. Sad to say that there is nothing useful in my location in the way of motor servicing. So I think I will get on with the repaint and eBay it. Thanks for your input.

Hi chaps, just connected a fully charged battery directly to the motors, no movement at all so looks like both motors are U/S. So the question is. Is it possible to fit a new motor and control unit without breaking the bank, if so what motor and which control system.. Or is it time to past it on to someone with more electronics knowledge and interest then I have.

Hi, I purchased this battery loco around 9 years back and I have done nothing with it. This week I took it out for a look and to be honest I have no idea how to get this to run. As you can see the twin motors run a single chain to the wheels axle. All the wires are black and heavy gauge. My question is would it be better to scrap the current motors and control system and replace with new. If so what motor.i have looked at the motors on offer by a few model loco dealers but their prices are way over the top. Would I be better off fitting a Sinclair c5 motor or some sort of motor from a mobility scooter. This is a heavy all metal 7 1/4 loco. Plus there will be a riding car, battery or battery’s and 18 stone of me.

Shared vehicles, will never work, insurance companies and lawyers would have a field day if said vehicle was in an RTC.

If the government paid for all car drivers to have a new ec, there would be a need for two or three extra power stations, miles and miles of new cables for charging stations. It will never happen. And like most recharge batteries they start to loss charge after a time. The government wants our money from petrol,diesel what ever, they will not pay the billions needed to build power stations etc. I don’t understand why public transport can’t be improved first, made cheaper and the first thing to thing about when planning a jouney.

Hi, hopper. I could not find any tube to suit. But did find an off cut of solid steel bar. I will be able to machine to size on my cnc mill. Which will also leave me the unneeded middle for something else at a later date.

I stated right on my first post what I was looking for, that’s why people could help me instead of making underhand comments.
