Sorry did not mean to sound offish. Bob No worries. I think the size of it makes my argument somewhat more pertinent tbh. Anyway, good luck with it. Chris

A good suggestion Chris, but you run the risk of getting a dealer in who will want to have it for himself to sell on and make money from it Select your valuer with care! Brian True but someone experienced might be happy to judge the codition and list all the parts ready for fleabay. |

It might be worth £500 or £1,500, so many variables.
It might be better to let someone pop round and have a look at it.

Gentlemen, I'm not sure if this is in the right place and I think this question has come up before but cant find it either so will ask away. I saw and spoke to J B Tools at Alexandra Palace about some tips I was after for a friend, they didnt have any but I was told to ring them at a specific time the next day so passed this info to my friend. He rang at the arranged time and got no answer and has tried again since but an email from him today says he has given up. Any idea's please. Martin P
They seem lovely people but I've never been able to get hold of them either. Sad because I'd like to support them. |

Hi does any one have a wiring diagram for a warco 220 lathe, i have a 5 wire cable so it includes a reverse, any help greatly appreciated. Dave
I don't have a 220 but I got one for my lathe by looking at the Grizzly site (us version of) as they have pretty good manuals that are free to download. |

Because of the angle of the cutting edge (100deg+ 5deg clearance) you cannot turn upto a sholder so either have to turn right through to the other side or use the tool to take out most of the waste and then swap for a right hand tool. Here you can see where I roughed out the crank for my firefly and you have to leave the sholder at an angle. You can take a good cut with these 0.100" if your lathe is upto it. Then go back and tidy it up. Edited By JasonB on 27/01/2013 15:56:24 Brilliant, thanks that makes complete sense.

Watch some of the sets of indexable tools as they have some very obscure tips. Try to keep to one or two tip shapes I would go for 12mm unless you intend doing a lot of heavy work and buy individual tools rather than sets which tend to have ones you will seldom use. Assuming you are looking at indexable tools then I would go in order of most used:
R/H turning, this will turn along the work & face CCMT type tip Parting 6mm &10mm boring bars CCMT, 16mm is nice for deeper holes Through turning to use the other two sides of an 80deg tip L/H turning handy for facing larger items and working away from the chuck Most of mine are Glanze but also have a look at Greenwood who are usually there
Edited By JasonB on 13/01/2013 19:59:30 Jason Just reviewing your post. What did you mean by "through turning" please. Chris |

I'm looking at purchasing a marlow 3A, however i've also looked at a warco VMC. Does anyone have any infomation/opinions on the two machines above?
The Malow is a little larger and about 200kgs heavier, its 3phase so will need an inverter however its only a 1hp motor so for £100 i'll have variable speed etc.
I have a VMC and think it's pretty good. The paperwork that you get from Warco will be extremely poor only matched by the level of service !! |

I've seen the through hole bars and drills used on large industrial machines with very high feed rates and 20+HP on the spindles, but I can't imagine a home shop would benefit from them. They are for industrial ops where large metal removal rate is critical (read great big swarf - 10 chips to a pound kind of ops) The motor on most hobby lathes would almost drive the size of coolant pump you need to properly feed through-hole drills and bars with 80 psi plus coolant. Just my opinion - save your money for something you really need in your home shop. JD I thank you for your opinion. Actually they don't seem incredibly expensive. I probably should have included a link.

I was just looking around the Chronos site at some boring bars and saw some with a through hole coolant system.
Are they any good ?
How do you pump the coolant through ?
Is there a fitting of some kind.

Hi Chris J What sponsor. We do not sponsor the other exhibition. I can't see where sponsorship comes into it. regards David I was discussing how things had developed on another forum. A "sponsor" in my reply was an advertiser on that forum. The owner of the forum (a good friend of mine) would not allow any negative comments about one of his "sponsors" products. I objected strongly on the grounds that it was supposed to be a place were like minded individuals could discuss good or bad service for the benefit of others. He didn't agree and as it was his forum his decision mattered more than mine.
I was saying that I would hate to see that develop on here because that is what some of the moderators actions (yours) indicated that. Therefore I think it would be better if you explained your actions to chaps like me Edited By chris j on 21/01/2013 14:34:34 |

I would just like to point out that this thread which, frankly, has very little to do with Model Engineering has attracted 70 replies and 5538 views. A thread asking for technical assistance on Carbide brazing attracts 2 replies and 168 views. Does this tell us anything? Adrian
I think it tells us that people are concerned about the issues. Also, it's nice to chat about life as well as engineering. I'd hate to see a moderation policy where nobody was allowed to make any kind of negative comment about a sponsor. |

Gray, In the Burrell post some guy called Alan Turner came on defending Graham but it turns out that it was Graham because he was posting from the same IP address, what is known as a sock puppet.
Later in the post graham made a reply about doing his own castings but forgot to log on as graham and logged on as Alan Walker
I pointed this out and said repeat afer me, I am Graham , not Alan a few times with a smiley but David deleted the post for some reason ? My "crime" was, having read the post (laughed out loud too) I replied with a smiley face.

Hi Ian Several people got personal messages explaining my decision including reasons I could not post without causing trouble. On occasion I have contacted people by phone to explain decisions I have made where I could not put something in writing. Please remember that I am employed and have to do what I think is right for my employer if I wish to remain in work. regards David I didn't get a pm from you David, either about this Ally Pali weather issue or about the posts you deleted on the Brunell thread. Your choice but a more detailed explanation would be nice, or you leave me and possibly others wondering why you are protecting Brunell. |
