Thread: Lidl modellers jigsaw
26/07/2023 14:55:37

Dick H is correct - I have the same Jigsaw and I purchased some spare blades (from Chronos IIRC) that are Proxxon 28054 (wood) and 28056 (HSS); I've just checked and if you put the Proxxon wood blades against those that come with the Jigsaw it's impossible to spot them apart.

Thread: Bernerd Multisize Collet Chuck - type of mounting?
23/07/2023 20:07:24

Hi all,

Many thanks for all the help - and very quick too; when I looked at the Chuck listed on Ebay in the DC31k's post above I noticed it was marked "LO"; I checked my friend's Chuck and that's marked LO as well, so that confirms it

Once again, many thanks for the help.

Kind Regards,

Brian

Hello,

A friend has asked me to list a Bernerd Multisize Collet Chuck & Collet Set for sale on his behalf (he's not PC literate).

I have both items but am unable how to describe/identify the type of chuck mounting - it's obviously not Camlock. I've uploaded some photos to my Album here:

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks

Hello,

I'd like to build the rivet tool featured in EiM December 2013 as some parts are available from Model Engineers Laser.

Can anyone supply me with a pdf scan of the article please?

Many thanks

Thread: Bodywork for Martin Evans Firefly in 5" Gauge
28/06/2022 15:19:58

Many thanks for the replies - the news that MEL are already working on a 3.5" Firefly sounds very promising; I'll call my friend later and give him the good news smiley

Many thanks for the help.

Thread: Sad consequence of rising costs

You can't legally park anywhere near Manchester or Liverpool airports without paying because everywhere is festooned with yellow lines. Liverpool has a free drop off, a bit further away, but not pick up. I wouldn't mind paying say £1 with a time limit of 10 minutes, but £4 for 10 minutes is £24/hour, which is taking the mickey

A few weeks ago I got caught by the Gatwick Airport drop-off charge - I was looking for the long stay parking and missed the turn off, so had to "go around". As soon as I saw the drop off charge sign I was committed, with no way out; it cost me a fiver for a "didn't even stop" drive-thru' that took seconds, literally. Wasn't a happy bunny.

Thread: Bodywork for Martin Evans Firefly in 5" Gauge
27/06/2022 21:29:06

A friend is building a very nice Firefly in 5" Gauge - it's pretty much built now (including the boiler) but the last remaining big task is the bodywork/sheet metal work. Does anyone know of a source of pre-cut metalwork by any chance please - Model Engineer's Laser don't list anything unfortunately. Unfortunately my friend knows nothing about transferring parts onto CAD (nor do I) so going down that route isn't easy either.

Many thanks,

Brian

Thread: Looking for a Sharpening Service for End Mills & Slot Drills please
15/05/2022 09:00:06
Posted by IanH on 15/05/2022 07:56:10:

Raynor Toolservices in Market Drayton raynortoos.co.uk - about once a year I send them a mixed bag of milling cutters with instructions to grind to the next imperial size down and they come back individually boxed up and labelled having been CNC ground.

Many thanks - can you give some idea of costs please?

13/05/2022 17:22:47

Many thanks; I did wonder if Drill Services may offer the service.

Any examples/experience of prices for Abbco please?

13/05/2022 16:59:49

Hi Trevor,

Excellent - many thanks; I'll give them a call on Monday to get an idea of prices....

Kind Regards,

Brian

13/05/2022 16:33:20

Hello,
Can anyone suggest a reputable sharpening service for HSS End Mills and Slot Drills please, at affordable prices? I seem to recall someone used to periodically advertise such a service on the Homeworkshop website in order to raise funds for (I think) a Hospice but have not seen the advert repeated for some time now, so am unsure if that service is still available or indeed how to contact them. Alternatively, are there any such companies geared up to support the Model Engineering fraternity?
Many thanks,
Kind Regards,
Brian

Thread: What type of Collet are these please?
05/05/2022 06:48:22

Many thanks for your help Martin, and to all those who posted; I'll be seeing the owner this afternoon and I'll be able to pass on the information. He doesn't own a Bristan (and is never likely to) so I'm not sure what he'll choose to do with the collets - but at least he knows what they are!

Kind Regards,

Brian

Many thanks - the dimensions are:

A: 31.34mm (there are four flats on the largest diameter, at the 90 degree points; these measure 30.49mm)

B: 45.93mm

C: 22.97mm (I'm assuming the "register" is the shiny ring at the right of the photo above)

alpha: 15 degrees

Kind Regards,

Brian

Is it one of these? A is the maximum diameter of the collet, B is the overall length, C is the diameter of the register and alpha is the angle of the taper from the centre line.

Many thanks - no, none of those sizes.....

Brian

30/04/2022 16:17:02

There's about half a dozen, ranging from 3/16" up to 1"; I can check actual sizes of all if that's useful. Which part of the collet refers to the 3/4" or 1.1/4" size?

30/04/2022 15:11:15

Many thanks for the replies - does this mean they are only really of use on a Britan Lathe?

29/04/2022 16:47:58

Hi,

A friend has a number of collets but doesn't know what type they are - or what they'll fit. Can anyone shine any light please - many thanks.

Brian

(I hope the photos will appear - I struggled to attach any piccies)

Thread: Supplier of 7/32" Dowel Pins Please?
24/04/2022 19:06:42

Many thanks for all the replies and suggestions; the intended ebay supplier for 5/8" wheels with 1/4" bores didn't have matched pairs of diamond pattern knurls (they'd have the left but not the right, for example). So it was back to Chronos for wheels with 7/32" bores - and as luck would have it I discovered I had 7/32" s/st. in the shed......
