One of the first things I raised when I started testing was a need for attachments, in fact raised it months ago when we we shown what we would possibly get.

I think it was covered in an earlier thread or maybe this one. I'd also like to see DWG, DXF, STP, STL

I hope they've got a big fat hard drive, this could get interesting

Photos can easily be dumped into a pdf file as a group album, I did all my family albums a few years back

(Don't worry I'm not uploading those ones!)

I would hope that our "amazing new upgrade to modern software"

would at least include the ability to upload pdfs

Is our amazing new upgrade actually going to do anything useful for us?

I realise its happening anyway and what will be will be.

Aha. A crossed post.

Yes stuff like txt and pdf would be a major upgrade for passing information over

I've done ok with one of my rellys by saying she's blind and disabled

"She's blind and disabled so can you initiate your procedures for dealing with these customers please."

wait 2 seconds...

"...or you can deal with me to sort this out."

No issues so far... yet

There's always trigger words in official systems. Gay. Blind. Disabled whatever

If your link to your albums section has no top end facing software(i.e. exclude it in a new albums link) then you will get a list of direct links to all your photo album storage

It's the albums info which is handled and displayed on the page, give it nowhere to go as unhandled links and they will list up as a root directory access page

Then we can get our stuff out really easily

My IT consultancy invoice for £100,000 is in the post

Is there any chance the techie guys can give us access to the root storage section for each posters albums?

Add a link to a logged in posters profile to give him access

Then we can pull up the root directory page and download the whole ballgame in 5 minutes

....I'm hoping that's not too complicated and difficult...

We're already half way there with the

https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/members/albums/

you only need to remove the access permissions for the server albums storage

a part of the forum system which is going to be toast anyway and It's just a pile of .jpgs

That was always the problem with the netty, the massive loss of history and knowledge as technology moved forwards was mind boggling

The first 10 years from 2000 got virtually wiped out by places like yahoo etc, millions of hours of stored solutions and knowledge from hundreds of thousands of contributers

It's why I only post in here now

ME 2590 (1951)

The 3/4’;-in. Gauge
Q SEVERAL READERS
have noticed that in
the recent note
(December 7th issue)
about the new track
belonging to the
Golden . Gate Live
Steamers, of Oakland,
California, U.S.A., the
available gauges are
stated to be 2 1/2-in.,
3 1/2-in. and 4 3/4-in. and
we are asked if we can
explain why the 5-in.
gauge is, presumably,
not recognised by our
American friends.
This is an old story
, which was fully debated
some 2o years ago
when the 5-in. gauge
¿rst came into use as a substitute for 4 3/4-in. gauge
in Britain. The controversy centred round the
then rapidly-growing desire to see true-to-scale
locomotives built to I-in. scale, but capable of
giving trouble-free and lasting service as passen-
ger-haulers, and matters came to a head when
interest was directed towards old-time types for
the purpose stated. One inch to the foot, is
apparently, a delightfully simple unit to use,
and 4 3/4 in. is a clear and ¿nite dimension to
which track can be laid; but many ‘people
have been surprised to discover how few British
locomotive types can be reduced to these
dimensions and give, at the same time, true-
to-scale appearance, robust working parts and
essential working clearances We all know now
that the problem was solved by the adopt1on_of
5-in gauge and 1 1/6 in scale, a combination which
gives a more practical scale/gauge ratio to which
almost any type of locomotive can be constructed
to give satisfactory service and very nearly
exact scale appearance
The American locomotive does not present
the same problems, due to the fact that its
dimensions are larger, in all directions, than those
of ours , so our American friends have never
had any reason to ¿nd fault with the 1-in scale on
4 3/4-in gauge The fact that the gauge is very
slightly wide for the scale does not affect a
mimature American locomotive to anything
approaching the same extent as it does a
British one, especially an old timer For
example, the Brighton Gladstone Class
would be very difficult to reproduce 1-in.
scale on 4 3/4-in gauge , but, as everybody
now knows, it is easily possible in 1 1/16 scale
on 5 in gauge

Had a ME squirrel. 4 3/4" seem to be pretty rare.

Between 1943 and 1956 a 4 3/4" is only mentioned twice

There's an American 4-4-0 in 3895 (1991) which is the first mention of a 4 3/4" 4-4-0

All my bits and bobs have been sitting idle for a few years now as other things divert me

Clicking on google the biggest difference seems to be that instead of three for a tenner my little drawer full of nanos are 10 quid each nowadays. If you look overseas they are less than a buck a pop

You've got to watch out for fakes though, the mini pcb industry can be a bit of a capitalist wild west environment

If I was going to re-enter the market I would be looking at the RF wireless versions nowadays

The problem nowadays is there's far too much interesting stuff for a twiddler to twiddle with

Yes, I think that the British are good at "Thinking outside the box", but not as good at putting things into production as the US.

Howard

WW2 proved the superior ability of the US

It wasn't just the big stuff like 3 carriers on day 1 and 73 carriers by 1945, or the B29 program which was even bigger than the manhattan project and at the same time they sent shedloads of B17s, Liberators, Mustangs, shermans and merlin engines to Europe

They sent the USSR nearly all its trucks+ boots + food + clothing + whatever as well

The scope and quantity of US based outputs was mind boggling

You export your Alibre file to .stl and load it into cambam for toolpaths and g-code (another 100 but most of these CAM programs want 500)

I use GRBL 32 bit

Licence only. NO MAINTENANCE but a bargain at that price

Download the trial and check your computer runs it ok

My own computer only ran the full Alibre-Design trial version, not the atom 3D version, the licence restricts any extra options once an Atom licence is purchased

If you want into CAD-world on the cheap then this is your moment

edit: They've also got the top version licence at £1238 which is making me grind my teeth...
