Thread: Rapidor Manchester Damper |

Just realised mine has no packing between the runner arms so it is impossible to set up correctly. Does anyone know what form the packing should take?

Just bought this saw to cut copper tube up to 6" diameter. I need a very light feed weight or it will simply tear at the copper and bend it. There is a damper of sorts, A metal ball inside a tube which I assume should sit in oil? There is a sprung plate on the bottom of the ball that I assume alters the damping rate but the ball is not a good fit inside the tube so oil comes past it regardless. There doesnt seem to be wear on the ball part its just not a great fit - should there be a seal on it? Thanks |
Thread: how do i make a square copper plate round? |

Thanks all I had intended to experiment with the clamping method, cutting very close to shape first. I cut a lot of copper sheet on the bandsaw for boiler end plates and contrary to what one would expect have found on my band saw that fine tooth blades very difficult to work with whilst coarse tooth blades work very well. By fine I mean 18 tpi and course 6tpi but I guess its all down to the speed of the cut and thickness of plate. Thanks everyone for their valuable input.

I need to end up with a piece of 3mm copper plate 4" diameter, flat. Obviously it needs to be done in the lathe but I cant think of how to hold it? Ireas greatly welcome.

The tilting column is indeed a weak spot - found out the hard way after drilling 6 loco wheels only to find every one was out by a mile - always tram the head before critical job..lesson learnt. |

Hi Harry
I have owned both of these, indeed still got the Chester, now heavily modified to suit its application. If you have the space and money go for the bigger machine, it is superior in every way. |

Ive got two milling machines - one R8 and one MT3. The R8 wins every time. Hate the MT so much that ive bought a cheap chinese er32 collet set and thats permanently in the MT mill. |

Excellent advice from Jason re size of boiler to engine ratio. So often I get customers wanting me to build them a boiler for their new engine only to discover that they had given the subject no thought whatsoever, and that the boiler they now need is four times bigger than the space allocated for it and it will cost more than a second hand car! These things need careful planning. |

As a trader on ebay I think they are pushing things just a bit too far - fees are high and support is zero. A customer can buy something, use it and send it back with me having no say in it, and I have to pay postage. Money is automatically taken from my account. It is a buyers market for sure but traders are looking for other similar avenues which offer them a little respect and protection. |

chuck body runs true, jaws apear to be matched set, no swarf - had it apart and cleaned it, other chuck runs true. Just seems a shame to bin it. Dont know what different spindle noses there are but the hole down the middle is rather small - I know there are variants with bigger spindle holes. |

I fitted one of my spare 3 jaw scroll chucks to the L5 and noted that a bar put in it was 10 thou out when rotated. One can only assume that it ran concentric when new so how did it get into this state, and is there any way of fixing it? |
