Apparently. . Steels made pre ww2 ( well nuclear)..are sort after since they don't have radio isotopes (odd sure there would be before but maybe much less).... |

But given that you use the term "evolve"..my guess is that you knew that |

Depends on what your pickling... Metals in acids react to give off hydrogen Carbonates.. ( some fluxes) give off carbon dioxide..... A part from water vapour and a little mist of acid ,..thats about it |

Does the cam stylus move?..if it moves does the pivot/arm move with it . Basically ( sure you have tried this already) can the follower move if asked by stylus. . |

It might be a matter of confidence. .if it can be unbolted and a new "better" one made , then there is no risk of wrecking your machine....if it requires sawing bits off..well you need to know you are right.... Cautious but not devout |

Seem to remember pitchblend also contains radium... And granite is a known source of radon ( nasty since its a gas and really easy to get into the body)..so any mine in granite is fun. |

Many years( or atleast pre 1980) In eprom memory chips an unexpectedly high data corruption rate was noticed. ..to track this down a batch of wafers was bonded out ( wired using very thin gold wires) for test purposes....batch A some other wafers were processed normally. .split up to be later..encased ..bonded out Then this batch was was split in two futher groups one encased as normal in ceramic with little quartz window..and the rest encased in expoxy as most silicon chips are... The in effect same chips were tested. .uncased..ok Plastic case ok... Ceramic...failing It was all traced to radio active minerals in the clay of the ceramic... . Its every where. . There is a phenomenon. .called triboluminescence..basically direct stress to light from materials. . ( duct tape does it)...it would be facinating to think that rocks in mines emit light possibly indicating stress in the mine walls... |

Bazyle..sorry .I did not mean to be rude. I thought that that comment ( in agreement) was sufficient. I will try to be more verbose ( can't for the life of me think whenever that has been asked of me before) in future. . What I think of as pithly seems to come across as cryptic. .seldom the intent |

I have a "loupe" sold as the "poor mans shadow graph"...variety of scales ..modest magnification..pocket portable. ..great for when your bench instruments can't move or the object fit on the stage. I also use a usb microscope but the pocket device is more used because of its portability. . ... |

Ok. We have all seen some variant of the Armchair Generals term banded about. "Fred's opinion is irrelevant beceause he never posts any work.." Or simular I certainly get more forum time than bench time these days.. Does that invalidate my experience/knowledge? ( be gentle guys) One thing about an armchair general...they have at some time been a general |

Astronauts have reported what amounts to cloud chamber effects happening in the eye. Due to the passage of cosmic rays through the eye. The human eye can under the correct conditions "detect" single photons..though obviously more would be required to form any kind of image |
