"Solar film" from memory...light plastic film..shrink wrap type stuff..put on taught shrink with heat..no glue or paint...use white./clear..lightest ../square m.. Do remember the penny weight planes..1 m wingspan for the weight of a new penny... shaved balsa and dope film..no tissue...much too light for this application. . |

Did the arithmetic once for a gas( natural) powered generator...for 2kW..electric..you would burn gas at the equivalent electric price.. (gas board have already thought of this wease)..thus no profit there..but hold on..what about all that waste heat?..jolly d..free heating.. It turns out that A)gas board or corgi or gas safe whatever the "club" is called.. wont let you build your own appliance and connect it to their gas.. ( fair enough I suppose).. B) for me 2kW of electric is ample. . At home... |

Thread: What did you do today? (2014) |

Rod has explained what has puzzled me for some time. There is a fraternity ( myford or other wise)..that states that a lathe MUST face concave..and the closest to an explanation given was that a concave face wouldn't rock on a flat. ..well now I know..and maybe the proponents do too ...squareness..+0.000 -0.001 |

Err if I remember magnesium "burns" in an atmosphere of co2..so maybe just be careful. .very careful. .certainly machine with care. |

Maybe the best ( of course you would have considered this of possible)..donate to your local Club..sale for funds or as library etc...this is great if you have a club that you feel that way about. ... |
23/02/2014 12:12:44 |
I can think of only two ways to do this .and they split into pre and post Pre..dispose of as you see fit while you can...down side..many but most of all you are deprived of "stuff" while living... Post..appoint an executor ..who whould need to share your goals. And be suitably informed. . ( both technically and aware /willing to take on job..)..downside..some other poor soul gets the problem |

Andrew ..Thats a shame..... Understood but a pity.. |
Thread: Drill chucks |

Just has a thought..on the subject of shank vs drill size... How do boring heads get on?.. Or fly cutters.. Hole saws .. .. . I guess its a matter of depth of cut and feed rate |

Ahh Andrew..what feed rate. ..![]() But yes it is surprising just how well industrial kit does the job..but then hp is not the all..if machine flexes then you need to back off.......but then again these babies are drilling 24hrs a day and a tool set might need to last 8 hrs... (before check/replace).. Edited By jason udall on 19/02/2014 21:03:13 |

..best.. Well yes if you don't have the kit.. but not if you do..or are happy to buy since your machine has lots more iffy threads.... ..one bonus of the plug/redrill...you get to move the hole if required... |

But it is true that reduced shanks are less stiff ( torsional sense)..so are not going to sustain the cut that a full shank will.. But..just what is your spindle hp anyway?..... And good keyless chucks are a boon..prefer collets myself but there you go. |
19/02/2014 18:39:48 |
Sorry tony but not true..we used what was known as D drills. .and if needed twist drills.. upto 40 mm and thats on a 42 mm cnc..one hit ..after 5 mm center..... The d drill is in effect a arrow shaped insert in the end of boring holder. .main problem was chip clearance..mind you that was on a 20kW spindle... |

Thread: Chemistry question |

Thanks Mike I know( or assumed) Not just copper . But couldn't for the life of me remember the gram molecular weight for "steel"..used copper as example.. If citric acid does not evolve h2 with copper then that's in the right direction for Adrian The amount with iron ( steel) is so small unless confined I think we can agree the risk is minimal Regards |
18/02/2014 20:13:02 |
Just a thought..say one mole of copper reacted ( can't remember coppers valency..) means one mole of h2 gas...thus 70 gram of copper reacted gives one mole or 22 l of gas.. just how many moles of h2 is related to valency of copper or what ever metal is being reacted but thats either 22 l or 44 l..so for our purposes 44 l worst case..how bigs your "shed"..say 8x6x6....thats 7.7 m3 or 7700 l .so 44 l means something like 0.5% .. I don't know what is the threshold for h2 but I would expect it much higher than that. ..anyone? Edited By jason udall on 18/02/2014 20:16:12 |
