Ok in "carpentry" terms

What you want us like a mini marking gauge..
Replace the scriber with a blade..score the tube at fixed distance from sliding part..

Score it by rolling blade over tube ..While keeping "fence" in contact ( really it is that simple ..once scored theblade locates it self ..). Three or four firm strokes ought to do.

Sorry can't supply skrtch at moment. . ----l lxxxxl l ----l lxxxxl l ----l lxxxxl l . l l l l . V l l ========l l . Ll ======== xxxxx = spacer l l l l = knife blade V l l l l = end fence

Does this help?

I see now its not. ..can't even post ascii art..*mutters*

Earlier I mentioned the L297...

I of course ment the L298..

Two quick thoughts...
Would your Mechanism. .have to survive the experience of being "served".....and it would be challenging to meet the tennis rules for ball weight....

And then there's the challenge if getting your gubbins into a ball leaving the ball intact.

.the proccess of examination of methods evenif rapidly discarded as impractical. .is still part of the project.

25/05/2015 17:11:49
Sounds like college/ school project.

Rc" Tank" in hamster ball..

Might even be something on market already.

Les. Yep. Called dead heading I think..see the same in "centrifugal" pumps

One futher thing
The knife blade solution gives a clean burr ( on outside) free finish.....
No small bonus on parts this size...
I once had to finish with oil stone 1000's of 3mm long by 0.6 mm diameter pins..to take off the part off pip.. (yep even cnc lathes leave part off pips. ( esp in carbide))...no fun no fun at all..
25/05/2015 16:37:50
As to consistency.
How about a blade spacer dull blade sandwich. ..
Sharp blade ..spacer of required thickness..futher blade ( or just plain strip)...

.the plain strip hangs onto end..allowing blade to touch tube spacer ( plus half blade thickness) from end..
Now roll for effect...
This is why I asked weather you needed say 1.34 mm or "all the same"...
When I made one for work they had to be 20.0 mm long -0.0 +0.1..but that was easy..with the toys to machine spacers with ease...

Re blower fan.
Gents, I am sure you know that "fan" loads go up by iirc forth power of rpm...thus fans "self" regulate to some extent
For your organ..I would look at a sort of "gasometer" say a storage device vents when too much pressure ( think bell jar rising out of bath of water...pressure relates to height of rise and high enough exposes vents in side)
As to half bridge drives...
Plenty of chips with already optimised silicon..l297 say...
Free wheel diodes built in.thermal shutdown.
Hhay..can even buy as module on pcb with heatsink and screw terminal connection. ..
Btw l297 has enough half bridge to do two motors fwd and reverse

The roll under knife blade..gives an end like that produced by plumbers pipe cutter..and it take only a few strokes..
Quick .clean.and I found it easy..
If you make a blade , even if not multiple blades but just an end stop you can part off in 5-10 s.. so 360 to the hour.....

Michael....I think that about sums it up.

Thus given that the method of transfer is a given ( "tin" wire)....I note the reference to direction relative to the (gudgeon? ) pin.
I , if I were looking to "explore" the envelope or at least to check for deterioration ( relative to spec) would measure the wire with a mike...we need a technique with an order of magnitude better than the dimension to be verified.
In this case +/- 0.3 so that relates to 0.030 resolution. .thats not outside resolution sold in calipers but my taste would be a mike.
If you need narrow jaws ..use the supplemental jaws Sold for this purpose.
As to verifying any instrument. .in production we used go no go plug gauges ( double ended pins in handles.)..with the two ends, at either end of the measurement window. .

All that said..my experience of scrutineers is even with "superior"and traceable calibration. The only instrument acceptable is the one in their hand.

2mm od 0.3 mm wall.
...
I would try Stanley knife blade and "roll" the tube back and forth on block of wood with blade.

Now to do this 700 times.
Well how controlled as apposed to accurate do you want the "tube lets "?
If say a Stanley knife blade ( thickness) would suffice as length..stack two or more blades and using the blades to space the blades make block up..roll away and off you go..if two blades worth ( or other length) required then suitable packing will work...
I did this for 8 at a time 5 mm lengths in 1 mm od 0.3 mm id copper. .around 500 pieces...

Just a word of caution.
"Instant" light bbq charcoal..has stuff in it to hasten lighting. .probably best not seal that in too well..
Plain charcoal...fine
Thread: Ship Building

All the above might be so.
But I would expect the keel to be laid horizontal ( neglecting any rise on said keel) building such chocks as required to match the slip.
This would allow the ship to be built square .
The thought of building a ship at such an angle looks to me to be wasteful and unnecessary.
.
Maybe look at video of ship lanches..and judge for yourself.

Yes. But wasn't it nice for the film to allowed to speak for itself.

No need to explain ,at a level suitable for public , stuff the public didn't want to know anyway.
( with a mandate to educate , inform and entertain..sometimes the beeb has the guts to address these ONE at a time rather than miss all at once).

Must say I missed the temper process in the metal one (come to think about it, seem to have skipped the temper/ anneal process in the glass one also).
.
Nice though

Capstan..what we did after throughly establishing that the error did not have a possible metal ( the number system used in spec was of the type 230M07) corresponding ..was it made/possible even if no one stocked it.
...not all alloys possible to describe, are cast .

Oh we could have it made but at a minimum tonnage ( surprisingly small actually) but...it would not have had the required properties. .and the cost...
So we declined. .saying we would be happy to quote to a corrected drawing or different metal. And please find enclosed quote in this material. .

22/04/2015 09:49:37
Do any of the cognoscenti know how to deal with production drawings when quoting for 10k parts year.
Where the material code is "misspelt".
And this spec . Obviously isn't made. BUT the customer can't/won't change the drawing?.
Customer's solution was for us to quote on the material as per and apply for concession on each delivery.

Thread: Expedient protective coating for aluminium?
09/04/2015 23:21:34

not so much a coating but..

if submerged would an anode in this case... magnesism..

(kinky naughty canibals must ask zombies for supper..)

serve?..

bolt on some sacrifical blocks ....if only a few days then might not need too large...

effective ness would depend on alloy of ali used..since some already have high magnesium content...

failing all other attempts.. grease works as barrier..

..even on stainless.. a4(316 s11) which isn't if submerged more than 100 m for 2 weeks....don't ask'...
