Thread: Tiny grinder
20/07/2015 11:53:28

I've got one of these , I sharpen my mower blades on it as well as lathe tools and for twenty quid its not a lot of outlay.

Yes the tool rests are a bit flimsy looking but if you bend them, then you're doing something wrong.*

*In my opinion others may disagree!

Thread: Buying a Lathe Advice

Posted by Jamie Jones on 05/07/2015 11:30:44:Is this more lathe than I need?

What accessories will I need once I have the base lathe to cover most projects?

All advice is most welcome

Edited By Jamie Jones on 05/07/2015 11:31:10

1st question: Never!

2nd Buy tooling as and when you need it, only time and practice will inform you of your requirements.

"I'd run if you pointed a blowlamp at my back end!"

So true, however I've been out in the workshop again to see if I could chase the swallows out and they flew out through the door almost straight away. So I had to give it another go and I got it running for about five minutes on a much smaller flame.smiley

It only bloomin works! rather shaky video on my phone while trying to hold the gas torch in the sweet spot at the same time as two fledgling swallows flew into the workshop and started bashing up against the windowssurprise.

Ah, the old zip tie trick. Is there anything they can't do? I lost one of my balls a good few years ago, I think it's under the bench somewhere. You can reuse those things if you flip the catch up with something fine. Steve

I may be shot down in flames here as a novice, but I would take the first one and make a simple arbor to hold it.

Get a piece of bar about the same diameter or larger, face off in the lathe, drill and tap a thread for a bolt to hold it in place and drill an offset hole for the crank pin to locate in. Clean it up and use a drop of cyanoacrylate glue to hold it. Face off gently and use a bit of heat to melt the glue afterwards.

they are not Scotch Brite.

There's your answer!

I remember when I worked in a dairy and they tried to fob us off with a cheap substitute for Scotchbrite for cleaning up the cheese vats.

I've just had a look on internet explorer (yuck*) and the images don't show on my computer either.Images show ok on Chrome and Firefox, so its an IE problem, one of the reasons I stopped using it.

* Opening page had some spam about fixing windows 7 that I could'nt get rid of.

Myfordboy's video was my inspiration and I used the link he posted underneath but I preferred these .Power supply.

This is my version of LED lighting, parts cost less than a fiver on ebay (including the power supply).

Thread: Is my speed control FUBAR?
25/03/2015 10:50:40

New board received and fitted this morning (a 10 minute job).thumbs up

24/03/2015 19:54:43

Further contact with Amadeal today, Edward phoned me to tell me that he was dispatching the board today and he was going to refund me for the drive belt that I sent back yesterday (a replacement for my AMA 210) that he did'nt have the right one to exchange it. Later he sent an email with a link to a firm that stocked the right one.thumbs up

23/03/2015 11:05:50

I phoned Amadeal this morning and they said they would send a new board out as soon as they find the box with the spares in itlaugh.

22/03/2015 19:48:53

Thanks for your replies. I shall be calling Amadeal tomorrow with regard to warranty. Reading up on it ,it looks like a MOSFET has failed, just curious that the motor speed has almost doubled has anyone else experienced this?

21/03/2015 22:56:57

Using the Mill today (AMA 25) when the speed suddenly jumped up to over 4000 rpm and I was unable to slow it down with the potentiometer. So the question is the speed controller knackered?

Thread: Amadeal lathes...

Posted by Neil Wyatt on 15/02/2015 15:41:30:

Hi Tim,

That's an interesting comment on mini-lathes. I won't deny that the "generic 8x16 lathes" are a fair bit beefier than mini-lathes, but cross-slide rigidity is not a criticism I have ever seen levelled at them before. The Mini-lathe cross-slide has ample bearing surfaces and is a hefty chunk of metal.

Neil

It was probably one of those "Ex (hasbeen) Spurts (drip under pressure)".laugh

15/02/2015 15:28:30

I was originally looking at the mini-lathe and went to Bristol Mex to view machines about 2 years ago. While I was looking at the mini-lathe on the Amadeal stand a complete stranger suggested that it lacked rigidity in the crosslide area. The rep on the Amadeal stand told me it had already been sold and if I wanted a lathe to take home with me "The 210 is still for sale." I looked it over and could see that it was a much more solid looking machine and the price was acheivable. A couple of weeks later I ordered one from Amadeal with a four jaw chuck, faceplate, quick change tool post, livecentre and drill chuck. Including delivery it came to £985 , ordered Thursday morning, delivered Friday noon. My lathe came without the thread dial indicator, so I used the stop, backout and reverse method for screwcutting initially but when I ordered some extra tool holders from Amadeal they sent me a TDI foc.

15/02/2015 12:11:49

I am an owner of a AMA210 and so far I've been very pleased with it ,although if you consider that my previous machine was a Taig/Peatol then the only way is upfrown.

I made this with it.

I have also turned a few chunks of hydraulic shaft in it for my Brother in laws agi machinery business and cut quite a few threads both external and internal. Motor torque does'nt seem to be a problem it's more likely that the belt will slip first, just bear in mind that it's a small lathe and treat it accordingly.
