lo guys

Been a while since ive done anything on mine (in fact done anything) due to a bout of ill health but im hopeing to get back onto the job soon

Nice to see PhilH makeing progress on his.

(quick note to Admin...there seems to be a layout problem with page 3 of this thread as the posts are running off to the right of the screen and adverts are overlayed on top which is making it difficult to read the posts.)

Thanks pete

No m8 as im not a member of any other model forums ive not been keeping a proper build record.

As im also not a model club member it will never be run in public and therfore not certified so im adopting a diffrent approach to building the boiler than would be the norm.

I decided to part weld and silver solder the boiler as it makes it a lot easier to ensure good joints, especialy on the part of the tube where it is cut up the side to form the fire box outer skin.

I cant help but think that this is a weak point in the boiler and that it will probably fail under pressure so my tube has been sent away to have it tig welded.
When it comes back I will also silver solder the internal joints.

If you take a close look at the fire box in the pic you will see the outside corner butt joints have been welded and the fold joints on the inside soldered.

I know its not the "proper" way to build the boiler but it will do for me lol

With any luck I should have the boiler finished in the next week or two (depends when i get the tube back from being welded) and will try to remember to post some more pics

Started on the boiler today. (first one ever lol)

Well im a number 1

Its taking time to make much progress due to not only having to find the money to pay for the bits needed for the build but also having to tool up, Milling machine etc.

So far ive done the main frames and about 95% assembled them and have just about collected all the copper needed for the boiler which im hopeing to make a start on soon.

This is not going to be a quick build due to other things taking priority but I will defo finish it

Keep up the good work with the build thread Pete and keep on posting those pictures

Hows your build going Doubletop ?

Ive only just started on building this so dont have any build photos as yet (still getting the bits together) but the one thing i did decide to do before making any cuts was to convert the drawing into CAD so i could double check the dimensions (plus convert to metric) and although everything so far seems to be correct Fig 6 on the drawing (pump stay) does not line up as close with the overlay drawing as all of the other parts so just got to double check it.

oh and im also only just learning to use CAD so its taking time to get my head around it lol

Also Ive decided to keep the firebox support holes at 1/4" which appears to be the correct position on the drawing (but wrongly specified by the 3/16" dimension) rather than use the correction on page 266 Aug/2009 edition.

As has been mentioned in earlier posts it would have been nice to see other builds in progress but sadly there does not seem to be any about

I too decided £40 was a little expensive for the drawings given that this is my first real model from scratch.
