Sorry Gents , its a Dean smith and Grace 17T. The photo was rotated in transit...I will try some more photos and video. Rotating the chuck with the drive engaged doesn't do anything in the change wheel department. I can rotate the feedshaft as in the video if it works.

I am having trouble deciphering what the manual means by headstock, and stud. I can get 'Int' . Below is the change wheel arrangement in my lathe and what DSG recommend for threading. Can Anyone put names to the wheels or tell me how to work it out. Headstock seems clear expect they are all way below the headstock and working out which could be headstock related seems impossible. Manual not much help. |
Thread: Oiling lathe - zerks |
17/06/2015 19:06:08 |
Polly rather shortly told me they don't do them anymore. Blackgates told me they could order me an ordinary reilang in their next order in 2 months. I have bought a hydraulic adapter from Cromwell will and see how I get on adapting a reilang I already have. Decent customer service is yet to enter this problem.... |

The old oil gun topic resurfaces for Zerks. I have these on my new (to me ) lathe. They are definitely Zerks. As can be seen here . My ancient wanner grease gun fits them and thats because they are mainly for grease. My lathe manufacture firmly says they are for oil so I suppose I need a Wanner type oil gun. - anyone use one or know a better alternative ?. |

Lathejack, I see I can get nothing past you. It is a micrometer carriage stop, but not Smart and Brown, or Hardinge. It is though a tool room lathe. |

Thread: electric hoist track. |
11/06/2015 21:37:04 |
Well, the pipe trolley seems to have suffered at the hands of H+S in the UK because none are available. Martin , the Unistrut stuff looks ideal. The heaviest trolley is up to 500lbs max so that should do. Also plenty of it on ebay. ideal, just need a few curves and it would cover the entire garage.

Thanks chaps, Paul where do you get a pipe trolley ?. |

I need some muscle in the workshop for lifting , just large chucks etc. There are plenty of cheap electric hoists on the bay etc - 250 , 500 Kg. Some of them seem to be run on scaffold poles but I m not sure that they would slide very well?. Also I am aware of weight/length considerations. Does anyone have any recommendations ?, more for track. The workshop is basically a double garage about 5x5metres. Edited By capnahab on 11/06/2015 08:34:12 |
Thread: relieving attachment |

If I think very hard I can sort of see what you mean , very nice diagrams , but how do you wind the cut in ?. It must ? come back to the same starting point.

I have seen a few videos on youtube of relieving attachments in use for cutting gear hobbers. Some lathes come with a relieving attachment. Can anyone describe in a few well chosen sentences what the relieving attachment does and other uses ?.

Thread: Sealing workshop floor |
31/05/2015 07:52:14 |
When I can summon the energy to find the garage floor it needs sealing- it is concrete , sound but dusty. I just want a clear sealant if possible , but an effective one. I have used a clear 2 part epoxy product in the past but it was expensive. Any recommendations chaps ?. Edited By capnahab on 31/05/2015 07:53:38 |
Thread: 3 phase - again - DSG |

rating plate says 400/440. |

I would like to buy a larger lathe, one with a 7.5 HP motor. I only have single phase supply in a rural area. Last quote from Npower for 3 phase involved paying for a new transformer on a pole (£11,000). I already have a few lower rated machines on various solutions (lathe with rotary converter) mill with VFD. I am aware that the 7.5 HP motor is unlikely to be dual voltage. I am getting conflicting advice from suppliers (depending on what they sell). I am hoping the new lathe may be a DSG. I have seen 10HP VFDs on the ebay for £250 which seems very cheap. Wondered if anyone would have any strong feelings or experience at this sort of power ?.

Thread: triple start tap die |

Because I am not good enough at cutting an internal triple start m12 x 0.75 thread in a blind hole ( without wrecking the work piece) in which I have invested some time. |
