Thread: machining spindle taper in situ? |
30/09/2013 16:07:14 |
Hi all im after some expert advice What are my options for boring the taper? bearing in mind the lathe has been stripped so the tail stock is nowere near centered and the only chuck with the lathe is a 3 jaw which doesnt look to brilliant! Due to the clean room nature at work i cant take the spindle in use there machines so do i have any chance of doing it in situ? My initial thoughts were step drilling and boring it acceptable or not?
Any thoughts? |

Evening all, Ive just purchased a new lathe and im 99.999999% sure its a drummond flat bed more than likely b type (looks like a spitting image of 1912-1925 model) Im trying to source a fixed steady for the lathe and a few other bits and im wondering if myford lathe parts will fit could any myford owners get me measurements of bed slideway dimensions and distances apart etc? Much appreciated harry marr |

Im glad its not just me! Im starting out on building a lathe at the minute and wondering if id taken on to much so good to see others have coped! how do you find their accuracy? Ive previously built a desktop cnc mill (proper xy table not gantry style) for milling pcb's. The trouble i find is getting hold of things like babbitt metal is so much harder than it used to be! |
