Thread: Multifix Retracting Toolholder. |

Clive, you were lucky to inherit them. I believe CIS in the UK import Ifanger stuff, so I will try them. Interestingly, I saw a video of a bloke somewhere who cut the cutter clamp off the end and welded a square threading insert holder on the end, the modern type. A bit drastic. IanSC, the cutter bits, or the actual toolholder unit ?. Regards, Roger. |

Versaboss and JasonB, thanks for the links. Clive, you are right, you can rotate the shaft, Ive just been in the workshop to try it !. Did you have to buy your 2 cutters in from Germany ?. They certainly look easy to sharpen. Roger. |

Hello Clive, thanks for the info. This is a picture similar to mine, the cutter "insert" is a sort of dog leg shape. |

Hello all, having just purchased a Multifix Retracting Threading toolholder, I am at a loss as to where to obtain the tangential inserts from.I believe they are made by Ifanger or Komet. I took a chance buying the toolholder (new Swiss E size at a good price)and now hope someone on here could point me in the right direction for the inserts !. Will try and post a picture of a similar one. Many thanks. PS, looks like I have to put the picture in my album first. |

Allan, my sentiments indeed sir !. You forgot to mention the other type of parasite that seem to b***ering things up generally for the nation, Health and Safety . Dont get me going. To the OP, not a very dignified end for a machine is it. |
Thread: Wills and workshops |

Hello all, Ive decided that if possible, I would like one of the workshops on the West Somerset Railway to have my stuff if possible, or at least the proceeds. Just my contribution to keeping a much loved organisation going. Cheers. |
Thread: Nightmare removing 3 jaw chuck |
23/02/2014 22:03:49 |
Hello Mark, hope you get the chuck back on OK and to your satisfaction. If it all goes well, it would be easier next time to turn up a temporary centre in the 3 jaw rather than disturbe it. If you take it out, and want to reuse it, a quick skim and you are away again. Cheers. |
Thread: Inverter Remote Stop button. |
22/02/2014 19:18:53 |
Hello Les, I presume that is an electronic form of a relay in your photo ?. I would probably be out my depth attempting something like that, but if you could perhaps post a giagram and what I need to obtain, Ill give it a go.Many thanks, Roger. |

Hello Nigel, Im just finding out what an amazing bit of kit the inverter is. Ive got the manual on a PDF file, but in my view, it would be better if it was laid out in laymans terms, rather than the over complicated way it is now. All the info is probably there somewhere, but finding it ........I learnt more from the quickstart guide, which is nicely laid out. In fact , ive found more info on this site from people like yourself than the manual. You will have to write that article you mentioned earlier , just hurry up !!!. Regards, Roger. |

Hello Martin and Les, unfortunately, I couldnt cram anything else in the box, but I could always change it at a later date as another project . Im not too worried at the minute, because the old gal has a clutch as well. Regards, Roger.

Hello all, a result at bleeding last. Right, Factory settings for Jaguar Cub 2.2kw, FO1 - 4, FO2 - 2. To fit E stop, change only FO2 to 0, wire external switch to PLC and FWD, Bingo !. The controls on the keypad still work as normal . More by luck than judgement I think, but got there in the end. Hope this helps others with the same inverter. Only downside, release the stop, and motor starts up again, but no matter. Again, thanks to all for your patience. Regards, Roger. Edited By Roger Williams 2 on 21/02/2014 13:41:44 |

Hello Harry, due to very limited space, I cant resite the inverter, but even doing that, to hit that tiny red button on the keypad, in a panic move at that, would be hard to do.In the manual,( online version), they advise against mounting on the machine itself, because of heat and vibration, so the nearest place fot it would still be about 3 - 4 feet away !. From all the info on this site, and from the crappy manual, I think its either a pendant for control, or keypad, nothing in between. Im trying a stop / start set up today and see what happens, or failing that, as someone has mentioned, Maplins for a complete DIY pendant job ! . Knowing bugger all about inverters, I thought it would be a simple job to just put a big red button, right there ............... Regards, Roger. |

Hello, I just need a Stop button on the headstock, thats mimics the one on the inverter itself. If I needed to switch the motor off a bit quick, I would have a game reaching it in time, because of the distance involved. I think I will buy a pendant and put a decent Stop button on it after all, and stop ( sorry!), causing all this trouble! Thanks anyway. |
19/02/2014 22:24:45 |
Traction man, now why cant they put the type of information you have just described, in the manual !. Youve made my day. Thank you. Thanks again to all on this excellent forum. |
19/02/2014 14:10:50 |
Helo again, the type of " e stop" I want, is the type that Rob c described, i.e, on the 24 v control side. It would just mimic the stop button on the inverter. I dont expect it to stop the motor dead. Just a switch near to the old off switch, which would have had a similar effect in stopping the motor. With this original stop button, the motor took a few seconds to coast to a standstill anyway. I would have bought a pendant, but for £70, seems a bit steep when I will only use one button!. So I could obviously make a little unit myself, but I havent a clue how to wire just that to the control circuit.Just something to give me half a chance if anything went wrong !.Ive looked at the Newton Tesla and the Transwave pendants, and neither have a decent red knob to "hit".Cheers. |
18/02/2014 22:59:40 |
Harry, thanks for the link, its the same as one I have. The Transwave pendant instructions give the details on all the connections, and then state, " if there is a requirement to fit additional stop buttons, connect them in series to interrupt the pink 24dc + supply wire. " But it seems I need a complete pendant to be able to do that !!! Or it does to me anyway. Regards, Roger. |
18/02/2014 20:22:26 |
Hello Les, Ive downloaded the official manual, theres no mention of seperate E stop buttons, only complete pendants, and then, no real instruction for those either. However, Transwave sell pendants, and also give free instructions for their fitting, but I dont want all the remote functions, just one big red button ! So I will wait for Neil to come up with his methods. Regards, Roger. |

Thanks all, ive got a remote pendant diagram that Brian O'Connor kindly sent me so I will try and post it, which might be unsuccessful !. So it seems that either method, ie, remote button on the inverter control side or in the power feed to the inverter, via a contactor, does roughly the same thing. Theres no braking facility in the inverter.Im leaning towards Jo's method !. Sounds a good idea. Again, many thanks. PS, it must be my tiny brain, ive tried to upload a photo from my computer, but all I seem to get, is " select one from your album", so ive tried to upload it into my "album", to no avail. However, it may emerge as my Avatar ! |

Hello all, just fitted an inverter to a lathe, a Jaguar Cub 2.2kw unit. I want to fit just an emergency stop button near to the old switches ( all now redundant ), but not a complete pendant. My understanding is that to use a remote pendantyou have to re-programme the inverter to be able to do this, so that control passes to the pendant, or can you still use the buttons on the inverter as well ?. Would I have to "re-programme" the inverter to just fit a Stop button ? I realise, that after hitting the said button and releasing it so too speak, the motor will start back up, which Im not to worried about, I just want to be able to hit the remote button in an emergency. l realise I could just fit a complete remote pendant with reverse/forward, jog, potentiometer etc, but I cant really use them on this lathe. Many thanks, Roger. |
